Vishal’s Satyam preview

Starring: Vishal, Nayanthara, Upendra, Premji Amaran

Music: Harris Jayaraj

He’s been around for quite some time now, playing the hunk, the ‘do gooder’ action hero and has got more than a fair share of success. This Thursday is his date with destiny which can put him into the big league, with higher stakes, narrower room for errors and the thrill of superstardom. We take a look at Satyam, Vishal’s first big movie in all aspects, budget, expectations and stakes.
Every leading hero has his moments on screen as a cop. Go back to the younger days of Rajini and Kamal and you will know how much their cop roles helped them cement their places in the industry and hearts of the people. More recently it has been Surya for whom the magic of a cop has worked wonders, Kaaka Kaaka catapulted him to the frontline. Now Vishal tries his luck with the uniform.

Satyam is perhaps the bravest throw of dice in Kollywood this year. By ‘throw of the dice’, we don’t mean to say that Vishal, Vikram Krishna and director Rajasekhar are shooting in the dark; they are taking a well calculated risks that seems to have the odds in their favor at the moment.

Why does Satyam have odds in its favor? One can’t think of another film, the promos and stills of which have captured so much attention in the recent past. We are not taking Dasavatharam or Kuselan into account, they are at a different level. Satyam has definitely managed to grab many eyeballs. The trailers look impressive, the music by Harris Jayaraj has been received well and most of all, the movie seems to promise things at a level that we have not seen in Vishal starrers before.

Vishal’s new look, a toned physique is definitely a highlight, even he seems to be smitten by the six pack abs bug. No disrespect to Vishal, but it is the leading lady Nayanthara (playing a news reporter) who seems have taken a lion’s share of the attention, she simply sizzles in the stills and promos and is expected to be a USP of the movie. Another highlight is the debut of Telugu actor Upendra in a serial killer’s role. Upendra is a hero in the Kannada industry and if he has chosen to be a chief protagonist in his Kollywood debut, it suggests that the role is worth the risk.

So, that’s what we know about Satyam. Its going to be a power packed action entertainer in typical Vishal style, only this time it seems to have a higher level of
sophistication. We have not heard much about director Rajasekhar before, but if a huge budget has been spent, then the GK Films banner has certainly seen something worthwhile in him. We will know on Thursday.
